Boys' Room Dresser

As I've mentioned a time or two, we're in the midst of redoing our boys' room.  With baby number three on the way, our two little guys need to move into together so we can make room for our newest addition. I'm excited to post on all of the upcoming changes, and will try to do so as they happen.  We are still in the early stages of our room makeover, but starting to make some progress.

This weekend I found time to paint one of their new dressers.  We needed a taller dresser with more storage room and this beast proved to be the solution.

 

I was in LOVE with a piece I recently painted for a client, remember this dresser?

Well, I loved it so much I decided I had to recreate it for my boys room.  Everything about it will fit perfectly with their decor - I'm a huge fan of red and white and I love me some stripes!  I painted it in Annie Sloan's Old White and Emperor's Silk.  I then aged the top a bit by doing a quick white wash followed with some dark wax.  

Looks pretty similar, hey?!
I'm more than pleased with how it turned out and it should look nice with the wood paddle I recently painted for their room.

Genuine Mahogany

Change is forever constant in our household. Fact.

As you may have read from my recent post last week, we decided to part ways with our Marina buffet because we had stumbled upon a new piece that would work perfectly in our space. The marina dresser sold pretty quick and it found a good forever home, so I'm happy.

Sometimes you just know a gem of a piece when you see one.  And, well, sometimes it helps when you also see this tag affixed to the inside of one of the dresser drawers.

It's solid genuine mahogany and in perfect shape.  My husband was instantly sold on this piece.  He pretty much was willing to do whatever it took to make this ours. He literally sanded the top down for hours, yes hours, by hand.  Gotta' love a man on a mission!

We then stained (minwax brand stain- red mahogany) & waxed the top and then painted (annie sloan's old white), distressed & waxed the body. I love the original hardware, so we left it untouched.

Nice teamwork, honey!  :)  You were right, I love it! 

Oh, and it came with a beautiful matching mirror that we aren't using- genuine mahogany. I'll post it in the coming soon section of our website if anyone is interested.

Gone Fishing!

This little superhero turned three last week. My.oh.my, how time flies. Meet Landon. Our oldest.

Our little buddy Landon had a Superman theme birthday party last year. My sis-in-law, Nellie (from nellie*design) helped me create the most perfect party for our superhero, party photos from last year's bash found here. 

While Landon is still a HUGE fan of Superman, we decided to throw him a fishing themed birthday party this year.  We live in a small lake 'cottage' - so it was only fitting for his July birthday. I scoured the internet looking for any inspiration that I could find.  My search ended when I stumbled upon the most perfect printable birthday party.  Enter Spaceships and Laser Beams.  As their tagline states - they design parties with boyish charm.  Love it! I'm excited to show you the (way too many) photos from this past Sunday.

Gummy worms, fish and saltwater taffy helped create little tackle treat boxes for our guests.

All of our guests helped Landon fill up his birthday fish with their fingerprints - a nice way to remember the day.

The birthday boy had his own personalized chair, perfect for opening gifts.

And here is the birthday boy himself, loving the attention and the approval to dig into that birthday cupcake!

Back on the Market :: Marina (sold)

It is with mixed emotion that I list this piece for sale, again.  I refinished this dresser months ago and it quickly grabbed my heart - high up in the ranks of my all time favorites.  I originally painted this piece to sell, the first time around. I had several interested buyers right away.  Then, last minute I got cold feet and decided I couldn't let it go - so I did what I do best and redecorated. :)  I made room for it in our home and we used it as a buffet.  Oh the compliments it got!  

However, things are constantly changing in our Leisure Living household - and hubs has his eye on a different piece for that space.  {I have to let him win once in awhile, right?!}

White Bedroom Set

I forgot to take before photos of this project, but still wanted to quickly share the after photo.  We simply painted all of these pieces in Pure White.  They make the most darling set now that they all match.  Classic and lovely.

Lane Cedar Chest :: custom project

 A client of mine dropped off this Lane Cedar chest.  It's in excellent condition, just needed a bit of a makeover.  I love pieces like this - they are so versatile.  We actually have two in our house. One is in our living room under a big picture window and it serves as a place to sit and store the kids toys . . . and the other is in our entryway.  However, I love a chest at the foot of a bed, storing linens and pillows - and that's exactly where my client is putting hers. 

Here is how it looked when she brought it over:

She requested the chest be painted Old White and distressed as needed.  We decided to remove the decorative hardware.  The pulls were a bit dated and since they weren't serving an actual purpose, we filled in the holes and painted right over them. I love the clean, classic lines. 

I love how it turned out, such a perfect addition for a bedroom.
